
Hospitalet de l'Infant
The small and scenic town of Hospitalet de L'Infant is charming
in its own right. This panoramic town sits near the harbour, and
has an estimated population of only 4,253 families. The 102 square
kilometers of Hospitaletde L' Infant is situated in the Baix Camp
region, and includes 2 small towns and 3 villages. On the coastal
line you will find Hospitalet de L'Infant and L'Almadrava, and
further into the mountains are the villages of Vandellós,
Masriudoms and Masboquera, all of which give a warm welcome to
visitors like you.
The area possesses a long history that dates to 1191, when the township of Vandellós ( which means Valley of Laurel) received a Royal Charter. In 1346, Peter IV ("infante Pere") and his mother Blanca d'Anjou instituted the old hospital which bore the name, and thus, Hospitalet de L'Infant was founded. The hospital was built to shelter pilgrims and wayfarers. Today, only vestiges of the historic hospital are left -- a piece of the wall, a tower
and several arches.Apart from the modern personality of the town, there is a charm comprising of culture and art. Musical events and shows are held in the town annually. There s a unique outdoor cinema that people can go into to watch the latest films. For kids, a fun animation show is provided.
