Villa Jacaranda is but a five minute drive away from the beautiful and unspoilt fishing village of L'Ametlla de Mar. Here you will find real "Catalan" life in the heart of the narrow streets of a typical Catalan village. The village has lots of restaurants and bars, as well as supermarkets and wonderful small bakeries and, for its size, has a surprising array of quality shops and boutiques. In the exciting selection of restaurants you will find some of the finest Mediterranean cuisine and wines at wonderfully low prices. The spectacular sandy beaches are a delight to see and enjoy.
L'Ametlla De Mar harbour

L'Ametlla De Mar is a working fishing village and trawlers can be seen coming into dock in the harbour on a daily basis with their haul. Small fish markets are laid out each day and families of the fisherman sell a portion of the days catch to the locals and tourists. L'Ametlla has it's own beach and life guard service. The sheltered bay is great for swimming and snorkeling in and the beach makes a great sun trap for those sun worshippers amongst us.

A short walk from the beach is the bustling town centre where there are many traditional shops a village square and an oasis of bars and restaurants.

We'd recommend that anyone visiting L'Ametlla, visit the fish market , and purchase some fresh fish for the Bar-B-Q back at Villa Jacaranda. If you don' t fancy cooking your own then there's a wide selection of specialist fish restaurants around the harbour and town.

Being a fishing village, seafood is the specialty of L Ametlla. Typical dishes include the arrossejat or rice steamed in fish stock, the fideauada or noodles in fish stock, and shellfish zarzuela, which is a combination of different seafood cooking in a special sauce. Special local flavorings are added to the dishes to give them a distinct and enticing taste.

The town of L' Ametlla de Mar is one soothing, serene town -- the place does not have skyscrapers and crowded beaches typical of tourism-awash towns. Here you are greeted with and bathed in refreshing, clean air from the mountain tops. Everywhere are pine trees, and wafting in the atmosphere is the natural, calming scent of fresh pine. The community is composed mainly of fisherfolk, and are very friendly and hospitable.

The museum of traditional pottery in L'Ametlla de Mar, located in the "urbanization" (recently built town or collection of houses) of Sant Jordi d'Alfama, opened its doors on the 5 of May 2001. Its origens, however, date from 1992 with the establishment of the Martí-Castro private foundation. Since the year 2000 the council of l'Ametlla de Mar has formed a part of the management.

The main festivals of the area are: the 2nd of February, the festival of the "Mare de Déu de Candelera" (Literally: Our Lady of Candlemas), who is the patron saint of the village. During this festival various events take place such as a procession, concerts, "xarangues", displays of "Capgrossos" (Carnival figures with enormous heads) etc; On the 29th of June takes place the festival of Saint Peter, who is the patron saint of fishermen, in which the patron saint walks aboard; On the 29 of May is the festival of "Corpus", during which the streets of L'Ametlla are decorated with extensive arrangements of flowers and leaves arranged in patterns or to form pictures and laid out on the asphalt of the street. Usually the people of the village stay up most of the night on the eve of the festival in order for the arrangements to be ready the next day. Finally, there is the festival of the Castell de Sant Jordi (which gives its name to the urbanization which is next to it).
